    Principal's message

Dear Alternative Education Center Students & Families,

Welcome back for the 2019-2020 school year. I hope you had a fantastic summer and are as excited as I am to kick off another amazing year. Words cannot adequately express how honored and humbled I am to be the Principal of the Alternative Education Center. The AEC is comprised of Valley View High School, Chaffey District Online High School, Chaffey Community Day School, and programs including CSOP, GED Renew, ASP, and Home Teach. I am fortunate to have spent the last six years in alternative education learning from AEC students, parents and guardians, the community, and faculty and staff. I look forward to serving you as we work toward achieving our goal for all students to graduate ready for college and career!

We have high expectations for our AEC students as they navigate a computer-based instructional model with the support of their teachers. This blended learning approach affords students every opportunity not only meet graduation requirements, but also prepare for what lies beyond their high school years. Students have access to their coursework 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with an internet connection—so with hard work, determination, and motivation, every student can achieve success.

AEC Parents & Guardians—you play an important role in the success of your student. We offer many ways for you to monitor the progress of your student so you can provide that consistent feedback and motivation they need to stay focused. School Loop is an amazing tool available for VVHS & CDS parents to monitor attendance along with grades and credits at the end of each credit check, and for CDOHS families to monitor quarter grades and course completion. It is also a fabulous avenue to communicate with teachers. Apex, our digital content provider, offers progress reports that will provide you with academic progress so you can view the quality and quantity of work your student is mastering on a weekly basis. Together, School Loop and Apex tools are a great resource for you to ensure your student is continually making progress.

It is vital that we all work together to make a high school diploma a reality for our students. We invite all parents and guardians to join us for a variety of parent meetings and groups throughout the year! We truly cherish the relationships we are able to build with our AEC families.

The 2019-2020 school year will kick off on Wednesday, August 7th. In the days leading up to the first day of school, you will receive our summer mailer which will include a calendar of events, student information, emergency packets, lunch applications, and other various enrollment paperwork students will need to return on designated schedule pick-up and enrollment days the week before school starts. If you have any questions regarding the summer mailer, please call the front office at (909) 985-0966 (VVHS-6th Street Campus) or (909) 460-5626 (7th Street Campus).

I’m looking forward to an amazing school year filled with promise, hope, and making our students’ dreams come true.

    Sincerely,

    Julie Prestsater
    Principal

    About Us

The Chaffey District Online High School (CDOHS) is currently enrolling full-time students in grades 9 - 12.  CDOHS, a free public high school is a viable option for many, including homeschooling families that desire to increase the level of rigor of the curriculum available to their students, while maintaining control of the physical learning environment.  Upon satisfaction of graduation requirements, students are awarded a traditional high school diploma from CDOHS and the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.

CDOHS students benefit from the flexibility that online learning provides including opportunities for course acceleration, unique enrichment programs, online mentors, face-to-face mentors, and access to learning 24 hours per day, seven days per week. All CDOHS original credit courses meet the entrance requirements for the University of California and each AP course has received approval from College Board. Many courses incorporate face-to-face learning sessions, including wet labs in all lab science courses and participation labs for first and second year PE courses.
